Afternoon in Abingdon

We spent Saturday afternoon in Abingdon-on-Thames.  This town is just 15 minutes from Oxford, and is between Oxford and the Culham Science Centre, where D goes to work.  An abbey was founded in Abingdon the 7th century, and the town has had several ups and downs of prominence since then.

We walked around the city center for a bit, and spent most of the day at the splash pad and playground.  See this post.  The kids loved it.  D and I sat on a blanket and relaxed!

We enjoyed dinner at Nag's Head pub.  It's situated on a small island in the Thames, near the town's main bridge over the river.  Very picturesque, and their Island Ale was refreshing.  Then we walked around Abbey Gardens, on the site where the abbey once stood.  Stones in the grass mark the outline of the abbey's foundation.
