Wensleydale Creamery

6 July 2018, Friday

A and I have been looking forward to this for a long time - a visit to the the Wensleydale Creamery, home of Wensleydale cheese!  We fell in love with the variety last year and were disappointed that our searches for it in the US were futile.  Even my cheese man at Wegmans couldn't help us get our hands on Wensleydale.  Instead, we were lucky to rely on our UK-frequenting friend as a source :)

We nibbled on all sorts of cheeses that the creamery produces, and chatted with the cheese monger.  (I pitched the Wegmans distribution idea to him.)  We ended up with quite a few cheeses to take with us.  This involved frequent buckets of ice at the hotel for the remainder of our weekend in York!

We were ready for a dinner stop when the creamery closed at 5:00, but none of the local pubs opened until 6:00.  We drove east to Leyburn and ended up at the Bolton Arms, a great pub with a garden and fantastic views.  I had minted lamb and a real ale from Wensleydale Brewery.  Lovely evening!
