We stopped for a few hours in Inverness, the unofficial capital of Scotland. Inverness means "mouth of the River Ness." We had lunch at a riverside Italian cafe and then enjoyed a stroll along the River Ness. It was very quiet and peaceful. I overheard two separate conversations where people said they much prefer the northern feel of Inverness to the hustle and bustle of the south!
I also stopped into a whisky store for a quick tasting. We didn't have time to tour a distillery, but this was the next best thing. I bought a bottle of Old Pulteney, which is distilled pretty far north in Scotland.
