Roald Dahl Museum

Today I took the kids to Great Missenden, in the Chiltern Hills, to see the Roald Dahl Museum.  Dahl lived in this small village from 1954 until his death in 1990.  The town's quirks and the surrounding countryside were inspiration for many parts of his gloriumptious stories.

It was a small museum, but we learned a lot about the author and his books.  My favorite part was finding out other ways that Dahl's famous stories might have ended, or alternate titles he considered for his books.  There were also some fun hands-on demonstrations.  C loved dressing up, and we got to vote for our favorite Roald Dahl titles (my vote was for Esio Trot; A voted for Matilda).  I think it's interesting how when I was growing up, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was the most well-known of Dahl's books; now it's The BFG.
