Three out of four of us got to celebrate birthdays abroad this year.... Happy 7th Birthday to A! He awoke to a small pile of presents, including his very own chess set, purchased here in Oxford. Perhaps his most fun present was picking up Oma and Papa at the airport! Top it off with some cake by the Thames, and you have yourself a great 7th birthday.
(Before the kids' birthdays, we were curious if they would express disappointment in missing out on a party with friends back at home. But both were totally fine with the low-key celebrations we had here. They seemed to appreciate their few small gifts even more. Something for us to keep in mind for the future!)
