Today the kids and I gave my parents a grand walking tour of Oxford. We started out at the Covered Market, where we enjoyed pies for lunch at the Pie Minister. Then we walked down the High, peeked in the Oxford University Press Bookstore, and were dazzled with the architectural beauty of Radcliffe Square. My parents climbed the St. Mary's Church tower with A (C was not pleased to be left out), and we got fun photos from above and below.
Then we took a walking tour with a local guide named Peter. We were the only people on his tour, and it was a lot of fun! Peter walked us around for about 90 minutes and showed us some fun new things, including a walk around Exeter College, Merton Street, and a place where the old town gate used to stand. The kids stayed engaged with a pictorial spotting guide that Peter had for them.
When D was finished with work, he met us at the Turf Tavern for dinner. Parts of this pub have been around since the 12th century! The inside is winding and cozy, with low timbered ceilings. Fun history, and good beer to end our day.
Lunch time!
