Journey + Jet Lag

We made it to Oxford!  Some highlights of our journey:

Packing up and getting the house ready for a summer away was... quite an experience.  Here are our four at-weight-capacity suitcases, ready to go.

We ran into a friend at the airport who had just piloted a flight from London. Thanks to introductions from him, the kids got a great cockpit tour!

We boarded the plane and were ready to go, but sadly a maintenance issue canceled our flight.  We spent a night in the airport Marriott (unfortunately suitcase-less and carseat-less).  We entertained ourselves in the airport for the next day, then caught our rescheduled flight that evening.

After a (mainly sleepless) flight, we found that two of our four suitcases had arrived, along with (thankfully) the kids' carseats.  We got our car (a Peugeot station wagon) and navigated to Oxford!  The drive provided our first views of the English countryside.  Also some harrowing wrong-side-of-the-road moments.  We nailed it.

We found our flat and settled in a bit.  Then we picked up rental bikes and went grocery shopping.  Here I am cooking dinner after no sleep (and having worn the same clothes for 48 hours straight):

Sure, everyone's smiling in this picture, but in reality, jet-lagged kids are ... a challenge.  So, we ate and headed to bed!
