Conwy Castle, built by Edward I, is fun for tourists - it is relatively intact, and we could climb all of the eight massive towers that form the perimeter defenses. We could even sit in the King's viewing chamber for the castle chapel (and saw his personal toilet). The castle and town were meant to be the center of Edward's political influence in Wales, but Caernarfon ended up being the center of things. We did not make it to that town, but it is where the Prince of Wales is invested, and its castle is also a destination.
