We spent Friday night in Telford, near Iron Bridge Gorge - the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The area had a thriving iron ore mining industry, and its local economy was centered around the development of iron as a building material. We visited the Iron Bridge - constructed in 1779, it was the first bridge not made of stone or wood. The original tollhouse is there, where people would pay a half-penny to cross, even by foot!
