Cambridge was our destination today! It was quite rainy, but we still enjoyed views of the River Cam, walked through two colleges, and met friends for lunch and a pint.
During our visit, I couldn't help but compare Oxford and Cambridge. Cambridge felt smaller and quieter than Oxford. The buses don't run through the centre of town, and I think that makes a big difference. On the other hand, the city didn't feel as bustling and exciting as Oxford does!
The punting scene also seemed more commercialized in Cambridge - many people were riding on "chauffeured punts," and there were advertisements for punting tickets all over town. Punting is more spontaneous and mostly DIY in Oxford.
We saw the famous cattle grazing in "the backs" - the meadows and paddocks to the west of the River Cam. I had read about them in the NYTimes, and it was fun to see them in person.
Thanks for doing the rainy-day photography, Dad!
