We really enjoyed our tour of Magdalen College. We had a beautiful sunny morning for it. This college was founded in 1458 and, being situated outside the old city walls, had a lot of room to expand its campus. We walked through several quadrangles and marveled at the architecture. The Great Quadrangle is the only quad in Oxford that has a cloister, or covered walkway.
Then we took a 30-minute stroll around Addison's walk, which surrounds a pretty meadow on the east side of the River Cherwell. It was fun to see the college's deer herd grazing in the meadow, and we watched some punting activity on the river. We also sat in some fun tree trunks that had been hollowed out into chairs!
We finished off our tour by peeking into the Hall (where students dine together; we heard a friendly porter chatting with some students) and the Chapel, built in 1480 and most recently restored in the 1830s.
